Scott and Puck's original “Show Business” routines were powerhouses, no doubt. Used by professionals all over the world.

With this 3.0 version, things have been updated for this new electronic assistant era we’re all in. (And the method has been updated too).

We’ve all been there. Siri or Alexa are useful when they work, and not so useful when they don’t. With “Shoe Business 3.0” you ask your tubular assistant to teach you a practical joke and things don’t quite go as expected.

You make a mistake during the instructions and end up filling a spectator’s shoe with a drink of your choice.

As you bumble and apologize and go to pour out the drink, but it’s vanished and some electronic “guts” fall out of the shoe instead complete with wires and flashing lights.

All of a sudden your cylindrical assistant starts to make a gurgling sound. Uh oh.

You unscrew the top of the smart speaker, and—of course—pour out the vanished liquid. The drink and her inner workings have switched places!

This routine has everything a professional magician looks for. Magic, laughs, audience participation, drama, music, technology and is just plain fun to perform.

It comes complete with video instructions, a full script, multiple mp3 audio tracks, the electronic “guts” and a light up smart assistant.

This is a creative and entertaining adaptation of the classic Banana Bandana effect pitting the performer against his electronic artificial intelligence foe. The script and Alexa-style recordings work well on stage and bring the laughter. I personally have an issue with borrowing and handling a spectator's shoe, but I have worked around that with a shill.

I would rate the entertainment value of the effect high, but the product quality is painfully poor. When I first opened my set and picked up the Alexa-style prop, my first thought was "Did I order a knock-off?" The main prop is cheaply constructed. It is considerably larger than most common AI assistants and bears very little resemblance to the one displayed in the demo video and marketing images - a common practice that I find severely irritating. I took it to my magic mastermind group that same night and placed it on the table. This was the conversation: "What is that?" "That is an electronic AI assistant." "No, it's not."

The activating button is clearly visible on top of the prop and takes multiple presses to activate and shut off. I've replaced the main prop with a more believable one - something one shouldn't expect to do with a $300 effect - and am testing it in my shows.
