While Luke Jermay is one of the most respected mentalists in the world, at The Session, you’ll get to see a side of him you may have never seen before. Luke is also an amazing card magician and will be sharing his innovative approaches and methodology to card magic. You are going to be blown away by his devious thinking and deft sleight-of-hand skills.

Until then, we’ll pass it over to Luke to tell you a little more about himself.
What Is your favorite convention memory?
I have many fond memories of the Session and Event conventions. The first that comes to mind is watching Max Maven masterfully perform his act of stand up mentalism with playing cards that destroyed the room.
Another personal highlight was bringing David Berglas to the session and seeing him perform non-stop in the hotel lobby well into the early hours of the morning. It was amazing to see his energy and love of mentalism and magic and to see the amazing experiences he created for magicians who were witnessing his performances in such an intimate setting.
What legacy do you hope to leave on the magic world?
That is not something for me to decide.
My goals are to continue exploring mentalism and magic and sharing what I think are interesting and surprising discoveries along the way. I share my material with the community in the highest hope that it will be performed by people in their own shows. So, if pressed, once I am gone and forgotten, if one performer somewhere in the world is using something I shared to amaze their audience—I will rest easy.
What excites you most about the future of magic?
It’s past. While this might sound like a joke. It isn’t. The future of magic is bright but it’s past is blinding.

What do you consider to be “real magic”?
Magic is as real as you choose for it to be! Do the words ‘real magic’ make you feel uncomfortable? If so, let’s come to an agreement, let’s pretend that when I talk of ‘real magic’ I am just using a whimsical framework full of colourful language, mystery and entertainment value.
If we can agree on that, we can move forward and engage in some ‘pretending’ together. We can pretend magic is real, even though you know it’s just an imaginative model of thinking, something that is representing something else. I am very happy with this agreement. As far as I am concerned, real magic is just as real and works just as well, whatever you want to call it.
Magic reveals the extraordinary in the ordinary. Over the course of history countless ways to express this have been shared by people across the entire spectrum of existence. At the core the message remains the same: ‘real magic’ helps us to identify and connect with the extraordinary experiences hidden in the world around us in every ordinary moment. So let’s pretend that magic is real and unlock the extraordinary in the ordinary.
Magic has open doors to worlds someone from my background would never have hoped to have had access to. I have met members of royalty, Nobel prize winning scientists and writers, artists and brilliant minds. There have been many ‘crazy zany stories,’ performances at music festivals, underwater in a submarine and more.
However, the wildest thing about performing magic is what it brings into the world of the magician that might have never been possible. The zany stories pale in contrast to the incredible experiences of meeting brilliant people it has given me.

If you had Josh and Andi over for dinner, what would you cook?
