The remarkably talented and insightful French magician Yannick Chrétien has teamed up with Vanishing Inc. to create an exclusive ebook filled with the secrets behind forging moments of wonder that persist indefinitely in the minds of your audience.

Yannick Chretien is the epitome of elegance. His suave, stylish performances are designed to be enjoyed and savored like a fine glass of whiskey. But, beyond his technical prowess, much of Yannick’s success can also be attributed to his inherent understanding of the core values that differentiate a good trick from an unforgettable one.

Creativity & Emotion is the first release in a series known as 8, which collectively explores the invaluable concepts that enable you to regularly create memorable experiences and amazing routines that allow you to quickly put them into action. Together, these two volumes constitute a complete journey through the art of magic, where reflection precedes technique, and where each effect becomes a gateway to greater freedom of expression.

In Creativity & Emotion, Yannick invites you to join him for deep reflection on two essential pillars of our art: creativity and emotion. He explores how these fundamental elements can be cultivated and expressed, offering fertile ground to enrich your magical practice and performance

You’ll get a first-hand look at Yannick’s creative process, as well as the reasons he believes creativity is the heartbeat of magic. He’ll also share an “emotional formula” developed from years of reflection, experimentation, and intellectualization, that will enable you to touch your spectators' souls in more authentic ways than you ever thought possible.

These powerful concepts are brought to life with two stunning effects. Each one is not only explained in detail, but is accompanied by an exclusive look at the creative approach and inspiration behind them.

The Unpredictable
A thought-of card appears inside the card case that has been on the table since the beginning. Then, the rest of the deck completely vanishes, leaving only the thought-of card behind. The deck is shown to have reappeared inside the card case. All of this happens in a matter of seconds.

Break the Ice Version 2

A randomly chosen card mysteriously vanishes from the deck. To everyone’s surprise, it reappears as the card that had been used earlier to stabilize a wobbly table.

Customer reviews for Creativity & Emotion

Reviewer

Travis

Been a while since I've written a bad review, but I feel a need to warn people about this one. Not worth the money. The advice is fine, I suppose, but it's obvious and non-specific.

Yes, having knowledge of a subject is helpful in creativity. Sure. Fine. But we all know this. This is a very basic idea.

Yes, emotions can be elicited from magic, but he doesn't offer anything useful on the subject, the advice boils down to, "be normal and do magic tricks."

The two effects are not bad, though one is just a variation of Gaetan Bloom's work.

A chunk of this very slight book is taken up with talking about what will be in volume 2.

I bought this because the topics of creativity and emotion in magic are of strong interest to me! I want to be more creative and to find ways to put more feeling into my work. So I'm very curious what any magician has to say on the topic. And none of what he says is _wrong_, exactly, it's just that there isn't anything in this that can actually help you concretely, and the ideas are very obvious. I was hoping to read about the author's specific experiences with creativity and with eliciting emotion with magic, but instead we get basic conceptual stuff like "know something about the subject" and weird detours like two very spaciously laid out pages on the symbolism of the number eight.

I think the author is asking the right questions, and the effects are well constructed. He seems like a good magician and a thoughtful person who takes his craft seriously. The Bloom effect has an interesting presentational idea attached to it for casual situations that I can see being useful to me down the road.

At a lower price I'd feel fine, maybe, but I paid 15 (USD). Can't recommend it at that price.

  • Gordon asks: It's a shame this has to be asked almost every time you guys list a book, but how many pages is it? (Also, presumably "ebook" means PDF?)

    • 1. Abraham answers: 44 pages. Pdf. Will read this week for the holidays.
    • 2. Terrence answers: I share your sentiment. I, too, like to know how many pages are in a document/book.
