The last of the Card College Light trilogy (which is lucky because I think they've run out of catchy "light" titles), Card College Lightest is a collection of easy card magic given the Roberto Giobbi treatment. If you've been in magic for a period, it's easy to dismiss this book, thinking that self-working magic is beneath you. However, there are some real gems here and Giobbi adds a lot with his interesting presentations, clear patter and clever routining.

In this volume, there are 18 thoroughly astonishing tricks of professional quality, complete with performing psychology, presentations, valuable tips and insights, all of which contribute to making these sleightless effects into near miracles.

The tricks Giobbi has selected this time range from time-tested classics to little-known wonders by masters of the craft, including Larry Becker, Henry Christ, Aldo Colombini, Paul Curry, Alex Elmsley, Karl Fulves, Martin Gardner, Stewart James, Howard Adams, Richard Vollmer and more.

Also explained are simple methods for achieving false shuffles, deck switches and other techniques usually attainable only by demanding sleight-of-hand.

Roberto Giobbi is acknowledged worldwide as the finest living teacher of card magic. His Card College series is a best-seller in five languages, and Card College Lightest is the newest example of why he and his works are held in such high regard by magicians of all levels, from rank amateur to seasoned professional. If you have read his books, you will need no urging to buy Card College Lightest. If you have yet to encounter Roberto Giobbi, you will find Card College Lightest a delightful introduction.

Pages: 152 - Hardcover.

Just finished reading through this, having thoroughly enjoyed the material in both the previous books in this series. I've been making notes on which effects I'm most likely to investigate further and add into my routines. It's a sign of the quality of these books that I've added most of the effects in this book to that list! I particularly like Giobbi's teaching style and reflections that make the book more than just a collection of tricks. He provides practical advice about routining and alternative methods that may better suit your style. I recommend all of the books in this series as a great accompaniment to the main Card College series. It means you can add new card effects quickly to your repertoire whilst you're working on the more challenging material from the main series.

I haven't got round to starting this one yet, but if "Light" and "Lighter" are anything to go by I am sure it will be perfect for me, as with the previous volumes and the Card College volumes they are so well written and easy to follow, and offers great ideas for performing the tricks too.

  • Marco asks: I would like to know the difference between the three books of this trilogy. I was considering buying the whole set but I am afraid I will find the content somewhat duplicata.

    • 1. Doug answers: Remember the Card College Series is very popular, rivaling Royal Road to Card Magic as the seminal collection on fundamental to advanced card technique. Card College "Light, Lighter, Lightest" series are kind of like a compendium and clearly a very good way for Giobbi to continue to expand his brand.
