Let’s be real. There are a lot of Card To Box effects on the market. Most are variations of Bruce Hennig’s work. But, nothing has ever come close to Jon Allen’s incredible “Destination Box”.

"I am amazed at your execution of the trick"Bruno Hennig

"Jon has done some wonderful work on the Card To Box plot. Superb!"Tommy Wonder

It’s how Jon closes his close up shows. And It’s how our own Andi Gladwin closes his walkaround shows too, and we think you’ll feel the same way after you try it. It’s just impossible to do anything after this, because it is just so strong.

At the start of your act, you give someone an elegant, walnut box to hold. It is fastened closed by a metal lock and padlock. As an ending to any signed card routine, you unlock the box the spectator has been holding for the whole show to reveal another box inside. And inside that is, of course, the signed card.

Here are the important details:

  • The card inside the box is the signed card
  • There’s no switch
  • The box is 100% examinable
  • You can use any card back design (because there are no duplicates)

But, there’s more to this. You can use this box not only for that amazing ending to your show, but it is not limited to playing cards. You could use a bill if you’d prefer. You can use it for a Confabulation routine. It can even be used as a Headline Prediction.

This is stunningly well made, and looks and feels beautiful.

Jon Allen has been using this for 20 years, and we’re delighted to let you know it will finally be available again from next Monday (June 19th).

We don’t often promote pre-order items, but in this case, we do urge you to pre-order because it almost certainly will sell out, and at the time of writing, we’re unsure how many units will be made available to us.

This is a really well made and beautiful prop. It's quite expensive but with the discount I felt it was priced fairly well. This is a premium product. The tutorial is great. The attention to detail is great and there are definitely more than one use case for this box. I am really enjoying this prop. It's great. Can't go wrong.

This is just superb! I love Jon Allen tricks and this is again another excellent trick. A performance piece in itself. The tutorial is excellent, Jon covers everything in muy opinion. A must have for the working magician.

Jon Allen’s Destination Box is an excellent example of an extremely well thought out piece of apparatus with multiple applications. Having used multiple “boxes” for various item to impossible location routines over the years (Lippincott style, Proper Strong Box, Regal Clarity Box, Nested Boxes), the Destination Box has some unique advantages. The box itself is larger than the other boxes I have used for close up performances, and easier to use that the stage size Nested Box set I have, making it an ideal size for formal close up or parlor settings. In addition, unlike Lippincott style or Nested Box sets, the technique for loading of the Destination Box allows it to be handed out to an audience member as a locked box long before the item revealed to be in the box is identified. And since the loading is different than the other boxes noted here, there is no danger of the spectator holding the box to discover anything unusual about this wooden locked box while other effects are performed. This time and distance displacement makes the impact of the final revelation much stronger. The basic routine taught in the video is followed by a number of variations using other objects than playing cards as the item found in the locked box that has been in the possession of a spectator for the entire performance. The Destination Box is a solid addition to the repertory of a magician of any skill level.

I watched the instructional video including beyond the basic instructions and agree with the description that the box is 100% examinable. Jon explains how Destination Box can be used in performance beyond it's intended use. I also take into account Jon's 1 hour and 20 minute instructional video which has excellent production value and content. I liked that he shares his performance tips beyond an item to location prop.

The quality of the product is very good. The method is nothing new. The written description is a little misleading as the box is not 100% examinable after the item is produced. I personally prefer Regal's Clarity box for a card or bill to impossible location as you are looking inside the box at all times pre and post production and no need to want to examine the box - not possible with this box of course. It does offer the advantage of being able to do a ring or other object that would not work with the clarity or similar boxes. A bit pricy in my opinion. It is nicely finished wood with adequate hardware and felt lining

I usually love Jon's stuff. I was disappointed with this because, IMHO, it is just an expensive rework of other nesting effects.

  • Tony asks: Could this work with a vanished drivers license? frozen in ice?

    • 1. Jerry answers: External dimension: 4.5" x 3" x 2"
    • 2. Serh answers: Unless the license were folded, it wouldn’t work in this effect
Post an answer to this question
  • Corey asks: What kind of sleight of hand is needed. I assume it's not self working.

    • 1. Lawrence answers: It is not self-working. You need to be able to do the standard approach to many "card to impossible location" effects where the card is folded. If you can do that, then this approach allows you to reveal the folded card in an otherwise isolated box. Moderate to advanced card skill is required. Although the most difficult part will be aided very much by another Jon Allen product - Perfect Score.

  • Richard asks: Is there a performance video?

    • 1. Bob answers: I used The Google to search the interweb for "john allen destination box." After correcting the spelling of Jon's name, it came up with links to something called YouTube where I found several videos showing live performances of this wonderful effect.

  • Mark asks: What tutorials and routines are provided?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: You get Jon's full routine.
  • William asks: The response from Lawrence refers to another item needed or would be helpful, "...the most difficult part will be aided very much by another Jon Allen product." Does this mean another product needs to be purchased to perform this effect properly or with greater ease?

    • 1. Timothy answers: The product makes the trick easier but not necessary. It is an item that allows for cleaner and easier mercury folds.

  • Robert asks: The description says the box is examinable. Just the little brass box or both boxes? Can the spectator tip the little brass box into their own hand?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: The small metal tin is examinable.
  • James asks: Just wondering if there is a need for a very precise MCF for this? I’m ok with the move but sometimes it can be off centre, would this be an issue? Not keen on prepping the card with a device like perfect score

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: You do have to fold the card precisely. This is discussed on the instructional video.
  • Bruce asks: In the first version a 6-way fold was required. With the new inside box, may one use a MCF?

    • 1. Jim answers: Yes, you can.

  • Chris asks: Am I correct in that Jon doesn’t teach any card controls or actual card routines? I’ve watched the instructional video a few times but he seems to only cover the MCF and loading the card but never anything leading up to that.

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Hit up our Support Wizards and we'll they'll take care of you. wizards@vanishingincmagic.com
  • Rodney asks: does this have the same effect as the double locked box? what makes this one different and 4X the price?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: The effect is similar however the main difference is the quality
  • Michael asks: I’m curious what “there’s no switch” means. Can someone elaborate? Based on the video, this feels misleading.

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: There is no switch of the brown box
  • Christofer asks: Do people think the destination box is the wooden box!? No, it's the little metal box Alan opens at the end. So, is the price for just the little tin box and video? I'm guessing people are paying for the wooden box, bag and tin, with full routine video and detailed explanation.

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: You are paying for the whole package with props and routine
  • Christofer asks: Description says "The box is 100% examinable" But which one are you talking about? There's a wooden box, and a tin box that magically appears around a min forty.

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: The metal box.
