Fourtunate is a trick where the workings are as much fun as the trick. Here’s what happens:

You draw a prediction on the cellophane of a card case that is not shown to the spectator.

Next, you deal the cards one at a time face up and ask the spectator to stop you as you deal. They can call stop at any point during the deal. They can even change their mind and ask you to continue dealing.

You turn over the card case, your prediction matches the selected card.

It is really that clean.

The method is a wonderful mixture of a special deck of cards and a very clever card case. There’s no complicated sleight of hand at all. The reset is as close to instant as you can get.

And yes, when you move on to the next table, the card can be different.

Comes complete with gimmicked box, special deck and detailed video instructions.

This is one type of ACAAN plot routine.

Pros:
1. Very clean ACAAN. The spectator can really stop anywhere they want. Not like other ACAAN doing math trick.
2. The gimmick is well made. It can last at least 1000 times performance.

Cons:
1. The deck is not examinable. However, the spectator will not want to exam it because they can handle the deck for the whole routine.
2. You can only do one trick with this deck.
3. Since your write something on your tuck case, this may make you look fishy.

Quite literally one of the best purchases Ive made, thousands and thousands spent before this trick, and I wish it was the first I bought. I would easily pay 5x the price.

It's a good trick and really makes a good impression on the audience. Easy to perform and almost instant reset. I just think that for the cost it has, a deck of cards can also be included in the package ...

This is an ok trick. If you set aside the novelty of the reveal, it boils down to a prediction accomplished with a multiple out. However, unlike many, many variations of this plot which leave you with a clean prediction that can be examined, this (the box) cannot. So if you are really wedded to the idea of writing the prediction on the card case, and are ok not handing the case out for examination, this may be worth your while. If, however, you like the general plot but would prefer ending with a prediction that is examinable, there are many other avenues much more worthy of exploration.

  • Philip asks: This looks amazing and I'm very sure that I will be buying this trick. Can the spectator choose whether it is the face up card or the next face down card as their selection?

    • 1. Gregory Glau answers: Yep!
    • 2. Philip answers: Thank you. Ordered ??
    • 3. David answers: The performer needs to interpret that.

  • Jeff asks: Just curious about the name. In the video, the name is spelled 'FOURTUNATE' on the package. Which one is correct?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Fourtunate is the correct one. I have updated the title to reflect that. Thanks for catching it!
  • Scott asks: How does this differ from Shin Lim's "Think" in any substantive way? Looks like the same thing.

    • 1. Gregory Glau answers: Here the box does all the work for you. Very very magical!

  • Steve asks: Folks what level is this at please. I'm 'OK' with cards but no card-sharp! Thanks S

    • 1. Gregory Glau answers: Easy as can be, and really effective!

  • Jeff asks: Do I need to have a card selected from the deck OR can I just show any named card on the box without doing the "stop at a card" part of the effect ? For example, replacement for an Invisible Deck where any card can be used.

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: You have a card selected from the deck.
  • Fabrice asks: May I shuffle the deck? Is the name of the card is actually written on the cellophane

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Yes
  • Per asks: Can more than the four cards indicated on the delivery box be selected? The trick’s name seems to also indicate four possible outcomes.

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Yes, although it would make the handling more difficult.
  • Roberto asks: At the end the box can be inspected?

    • 1. SGKYDUYEN answers: The spectator can look but it can't be examined

  • Mark asks: Is there any restriction as far as type of card box?

    • 1. David answers: The gimmick is only supplied in Red bicycle back

  • Peter asks: Is the pack itself gimmicked? Can it be used for other effects?

    • 1. SGKYDUYEN answers: The box is gimmicked :P
    • 2. David answers: You are supplied with cards to gimmick your deck, but you can perform other variations with the special box and a normal deck.

  • Steven asks: A follow on from last question, can this trick be used to close a routine without any deck swaps etc?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: See previous answer :) It comes with the special deck you need.
  • Barryn asks: Can this be done with an ordinary deck of cards?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: No. You get the special deck you need.
  • Alan asks: Can the card box be made or remade with a different back design. Regards, Alan White

    • 1. Derek answers: Yes. You can make the gimmick out of any box. Just need standard office supplies (takes about 15mins). But as other Q/A notes, you also will need to make an Al Koran deck. So you’ll need a few extra decks of whatever design you want to use. This is a fantastic effect, and clever gimmick. Get it.
    • 2. David answers: Yes! I have replaced MOST parts of this gimmick but you MUST be careful & don't experiment TOO much! I have used this gimmick to GREAT effect - just remember to develop a LIGHT touch, practice (probably a little more than suggested) and enjoy this 'tweakable' gimmick /trick!
    • 3. David answers: If you are really good at arts and crafts, you could try to reconstruct it with a different deck design

  • Don asks: As per the video, I assume the spectator cannot stop you after just 2 or 3 cards...it appears that a "few" cards have to be dealt out before you can tell the spectator to stop you...this really doesn't present a problem either way, just curious...I will be getting this...Thanks!

    • 1. Len answers: In the video, it does show a spectator say, "5 more," and he deals 5 more cards on the table then comes to the predicted card...

  • Don asks: Thank you Len...I meant can the spec. stop you after just 2 or three cards off the TOP of the deck?

    • 1. David answers: You could easily modify the setup of the deck to allow for that if you wish.

  • William asks: Do you need to replace the box or the cellophane around the box with each performance?

    • 1. David answers: Nope, it’s immediately reset after you perform.

  • Ron asks: Hello! Is the promo video edited? It looks s like the camera pulls away on occasion. Thanks.

    • 1. SGKYDUYEN answers: I don't think so

  • Don asks: How many different cards can be written as predictions? I am assuming that all 52 cards cannot be shown as predictions. If that is the case, how many different cards, (outs) are there?...and thank you all for having this forum available....

    • 1. Derek answers: Only four outcomes are supplied. But you can make new gimmicks (takes about 15mins with standard office supplies) and change to four different cards.
    • 2. SGKYDUYEN answers: It's four outcomes

  • Paul asks: Does the trick give credit to Harry Lorayne for his 101 Deck, popularized by Al Koran?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: The 101 Deck was not invented by Harry Lorayne - it goes back to at least the early 1900s.
  • David asks: When I first signed on it offered a 10% discount code but I forgot what it was can you supply it to me ?

    • 1. SGKYDUYEN answers: Please email to magic@vanishingincmagic.com to get the discount code

    • 1. SGKYDUYEN answers: It's completely different

  • Tom asks: Did anyone else have this problem?I don't usually complain, but this time I am really disappointed! The cellophane remains stuck 80? of the time and does not move. You are left hanging right at the moment the prediction is supposed to appear. The effect would be "great' if the maker could fix this ...it's just a gamble as to whether it will work or not. Maybe change the cellophane for a spinning small, thin, plastic wheel would be better. At this time, I cannot give this product a good rating.

    • 1. Len answers: Same experience here Tom. It does it because the cellophane gets tight. What I did was squeeze the box sides in a 'little' bit and that loosens the cellophane and lets it slide easier. :)
    • 2. David answers: Sorry to hear that. We discovered a handful of units from the initial batch had an error in the production process that caused the gimmick to get stuck instead of moving freely. It has since been corrected- I encourage you to ask for a replacement unit as they are now all functioning smoothly.

  • Michael asks: What a beautifully imagined/designed prediction. I was thrilled to receive Fourtunate last week - the week of November 11th, 2019 - but I too found the gimmick difficult to move and unpredictable in its movements. Is it possible to get a replacement? So excited to put Fourtunate to work! Thanks in advance.

    • 1. SGKYDUYEN answers: Please email more information (with a quick video) to magic@vanishingincmagic.com to get a replacement

  • Mac asks: I bought the gift.... Actually one of my favourite effects. I'm thinking this is a "similar" premise with card box instead of gift box?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Although the effect is similar, the method for the reveal is unique.
