An eye-opening reimagining of one of card magic’s most influential texts. Master sleight of hand artist David Ben’s treatise on the science and art of manipulating playing cards allows modern magicians to more easily embrace the seminal concepts introduced in S.W. Erdnase’s seminal The Expert at the Card Table .

David’s reframed approach to card cheating, artifice, ruse, and subterfuge—which he has dubbed “The Erdnase System for Advantage Player”—brings greater clarity to the original prose. From locating desired cards, to maintaining them though imperceptible false shuffles, and then dealing them into your desired hands, everything you need to master the art of cheating at the card table is explained in crystal-clear detail.

The accompanying 750+ photographs offer a dramatically enhanced learning experience in comparison to the scant illustrations found in Erdnase’s original book. They are not only a huge improvement on the teaching but also the artistry of the book as a whole. This is not only a valuable learning tool, but also a gorgeous addition to any collection.

The Experts at the Card Table by David Ben is a technical masterclass reserved for those seeking a greater understanding of this advanced skill set. It is a must-have for any serious student of card magic, as well as collectors of Erdnase and sleight of hand memorabilia.

  • Michel asks: This was meant to be the first volume in a trilogy. Are there any plans to publish the remaining two volumes?

    • 1. Andrew answers: The Vernon biography was also supposed to be multi-volume.

  • Robert asks: Are the photos from the spectator’s view or the performers view? The examples shown look like the spectator’s view. Seems to me it would be easier to learn with at least some photos from the performer’s view.

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: The photos are from a spectators view.
  • David asks: I hate reading. I learn much better from audio-visual media. Will there be a video?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: There will not be a video I'm afraid.
  • William asks: Based upon the inquiry from Michel as to whether this is a trilogy with two additional volumes to follow or is this a "complete" stand alone volume of Erdnase's "Expert at the Card Table", start to finish?

    • 1. Fiona answers: I purchased this when it was first released by Magiciana several years ago, and they stated there would be subsequent volumes. THis has yet to emerge. I purchased the limited edition copy and was informed I would be the first to know when the new volumes are coming so we have first refusals on the next volume limited editions to complete our collections. I recently purchased the Rich Cabinet collection from Magiciana and made a follow up on these subsequent volumes. I was informed they re busy with other projects but it's still "in the pipeline". That was before their recent announcement that they are stepping back from the publishing business and sold the rights to Vanishing Inc. So at the moment, it seems I wouldn't count on there being any subsequent volumes anytime soon. On saying that, this first volume is excellent, and thoroughly recommended, which is why I'm a little sad the other volumes have yet to emerge.

  • Shayne asks: Any plans for digital?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Not at the moment
  • Ulises asks: I’m confused with the questions regarding future volumes. Does this book cover all of the content of the original Erdnase’s book? Or does in only cover a section of the book, with future volumes covering the rest?

    • 1. Ethan answers: It does not. Personally get yourself a copy of the annotated erdnase. It's upsetting that it seems like it's a trilogy that won't be completed.
