Customer reviews for Standard Close-Up Mat (GREEN - 10.5x15.5)

Classic casino green, leaving both red and blue cards rendered perfectly visible. Plush but sturdy; even when I absent-mindedly leave heavy things on it, it doesn't dent. Small enough to be mobile, easily fitting various and sundry locations (e.g. the coffee table in front of the TV), but covers enough ground for the purposes of practice. Parlor performance would merit something larger, but for table-hopping it might be just the right compromise.

This is really a beautiful mat. The color is a deep green--the same as you'd see on a casino table. The surface has a smooth feel, with just the right amount of "give" for card work. It's thick enough to stay flat--it stayed flat almost as soon as I unrolled it when I unpacked it.

The edges are perfectly clean--there are no little bits of fabric hanging on, and the corners are nicely rounded.

The price is reasonable for a product of this quality. I'm glad I bought it.

  • Stephen asks: Can anyone speak to how the "Magician's Choice Performance Mat" compares to both "Pattrick's Mat" and "Murphy's Deluxe Close-up Pad"? Murphy's Deluxe Pad has a slightly thicker Neoprene underlayment than does Pattrick's Mat but Pattrick's for example has a thicker and softer sponge material as the center layer. Also, Pattrick's Mat's have three different top layer choices: ORIGINAL, which feels very similar to Murphy's top layer which is a "looped" fabric, PLUSH, which is not "looped" which prevents dry hands or rough fingernails from snagging on the threads, and SPECTRUM which isn't as soft as the PLUSH but has a random grain to it. In short, how soft will the Magician's Choice Performance Mat be compared to Pattrick's and Murphy's? Thanks!

    • 1. Jonathan answers: I have both the Ronjo and Murphy's and have seen and worked on Pattrick's. I prefer the Ronjo. I don't know what their top material is exactly but it's superior to any mat I've ever had. No snags or pile- just a plush perfect top. Heavy weight and thick. It's more expensive but it will last a lifetime and in my opinion is the best mat available.

    • 3. Stephen answers: Thanks Jim, I will reach out to Ronjo but I'd still like to hear from an unbiased consumer with experience with these mats. The information that Ronjo provides online does not say how thick the mats are. And the videos that Ronjo has posted online for these mats do not describe the thickness nor do they show very close-up shots of the edge of the mat in order to get an idea of materials and such.
