Ben Seidman finally shares his most closely-guarded secrets for destroying every audience…literally

The Principles of Destruction was born from Ben’s desire to create a routine so powerful that it would send every audience into pure chaos. Years in the making, we’re so excited to bring you what is arguably his most incredible creation to date.

This world-class performance piece never fails to blow away an audience. It takes them on a spectacular journey that continually escalates in impossibility before concluding with a brain-melting finale that will have them screaming. As you’ve come to expect from Ben, every aspect has been meticulously perfected to ensure your audience has no explanation for what they just witnessed. It’s simply a miracle.

“F—ing diabolical. Wow!" Jamy Ian Swiss

“How am I supposed to give a quote for this? I’m speechless.” Mat Franco

“This is so good! I had to go back and rewatch several moments. I love it!” Doug McKenzie

First, a selected card rises out of the deck while it’s isolated in a glass (using an ingenious method that will have you smiling from ear to ear). This card is then cleanly removed from the deck and placed in their hand before disappearing and reappearing underneath them. For the final phase, they rip off a corner of their card and hold onto it. Then, with your sleeves rolled up, you make the rest of the card vanish from your hands and materialize in the pocket of a completely different audience member. Of course, the torn corner matches perfectly and the card is totally examinable.

Don’t be fooled into thinking this is just another card trick. The Principles of Destruction is a masterclass in how ingenious principles can be seamlessly weaved with simple moves to create a level of deception that is truly surreal—all without any tricky body loads required.

Ben has carefully developed a devious routine in which multiple dual realities run simultaneously alongside some of the most powerful effects in the world (Rising Card, a vanish, and transposition). Every detail is meticulously laid out in this beautiful hardcover book, and is accompanied by precise illustrations. He’s also recorded a bonus video with extra handlings and tips to ensure you get the absolute most out of this killer multi-phase routine.

If you think you know dual reality, think again. The Principles of Destruction will open your mind to possibilities you never imagined. If you aren’t familiar with dual reality, then prepare to discover one of the most powerful tools a magician can have in their arsenal. Upon reading this thin but dense book, it will quickly become apparent why Ben is one of the most respected minds in all of magic.

“Beautifully structured and delightfully clever!” Carisa Hendrix (aka Lucy Darling)

“It’s soooooo good. I loved every bit of it. Thanks for the MUCH NEEDED inspiration.” Farrell Dillon

"I witnessed Ben Seidman destroy an audience of knowledgeable magicians and their discerning spouses with The Principles of Destruction. Then, I read the detailed explanation and was consoled at having been fooled so thoroughly. No wit can pierce the many layers of deception that Ben has carefully constructed. The routine is fantastic, but the principles are priceless!" Karl Hein

“I love magicians who aren’t afraid to invest considerable work before a performance in order to ensure the strongest effect. I love a performer who is proud to lie through their teeth in order to create additional layers of wonder. I love it when the audience is trapped in dual and even triple realities. I love Ben Seidman’s Principles of Destruction.” Mike Caveney

The Principles of Destruction Performance.

This outstanding, practical stage/parlor routine can play to crowds of 25 to 2,500+ with almost no props. In fact, if you skip, or replace, the Rising Card phase (which Ben discusses), the entire thing can be done with props that fit in your pocket.

WOW, this is a must have in any library! I've been a big fan of Ben Seidman (iVanish, Oracle System, Permanent Record, interviews, his work in the industry, etc.) but he had not yet put his own material into writing. When I saw the performance of this routine I just loved it and immediately ordered the book.

Ben's wickedly quick wit is a welcome feature, clearly indicating he did not have a ghost-writer, making the text more entertaining and imparting a feeling more like a one-on-one conversation than a text. There isn't a lot of fluff, and the text is compact (50 pages); but don't be hoodwinked by what I just said... this book is amazingly insightful into the "art of magic", not to be confused with the "craft of magic"! This amazing multi-wow routine is just the start... Ben get you into the "why" as well as the "how", he let's you know why he makes the choices he does and you will undoubtedly say to yourself... "hmm, I need to re-think some of the stuff I'm doing". If you want tools to elevate your game, to help you be a better magician, than you owe it to yourself to make this modest contribution to your education!

"The Principles of Destruction" is a quick and entertaining read that teaches the core routine alongside concepts that are applicable to any performance. I found myself laughing out loud at several points while also deeply appreciating what I was reading and thinking through how to incorporate it into my own performance style. I especially appreciated that Ben offers several alternative approaches to the act if you can't put together the various gimmicks. This really is something that any performer can master and use to give the audience an unforgettable experience.

This is a quick read at a great price. The books is nicely produced and there as some interesting methods in here which was new to me. I read it in one sitting and really enjoyed it. It is really well written. It's short and snappy and the product of a real pro. Not for beginners I my humble opinion. Glad I got this. Very happy.

Have a question about this product? It's possible others do too. Ask here and other Vanishing Inc. Magic customers will be able to respond with assistance! Alternatively, email us and we can help too.

  • Hussain asks: Is this can be done in close up? I mean if iam in resturant or any where can i do all this routine in any close area? Or its only this book for stage and parlor because iam not a stage or parlore preformer

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: You can absolutely do it with a group at a restaurant. You may need to leave out the Rising Card aspect, but the rest would work with a restaurant group. It plays stronger with a bigger audience, but Ben has done it for 7 or 8 people and killed.
  • Arie asks: How big is this book (both page count and physical size)? Thanks!

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: 16x23.5cm, and 50 pages. Hope that helps.
  • Robert asks: Ben is always so incredible. He makes everything look so effortless, which leads me to ask, what is the skill level required?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: There's not really a scale of universally accepted "difficulty" for magic. If you are happy doing a Pressure Fan and an Elmsley Count you'd be totally fine. That's about as hard as it gets.
  • Robert asks: Can this be performed one on one, or does it need several spectators to work?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Ben has done it in for groups of about 8 or hundreds! It needs more than one person for the routine to play out as designed.
  • Yakoby asks: Usually when I do shows I try to avoid whenever possible to do preshow even though it can be very filling.. does preshow exist in this performance or all dual reality is done on stage?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: There is an element of pre-show, but it's not really what anyone would think of as pre-show. You do a card trick for someone before the show starts. That's it. They will feel as if they just had a little free bonus trick. (TBH, the Support Wizard writing this thought they would never, ever do pre-show too but I am already learning the routine because it just doesn't feel at all like pre-show for me or the person!)
  • Nevio asks: The description mentions "The Principles of Destruction is a masterclass in how ingenious principles can be seamlessly weaved with simple moves to create a level of deception that is truly surreal" How far does Ben go into the above mentioned "meta-aspect" of creating the routine?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Please email us at wizards@vanishingincmagic.com and we can discuss this in more detail with you
  • George asks: It would appear that the card must be forced to match the card in the other spectator's pocket. In a walkaround situation in a restaurant, how would this work?? Not much pre-show opportunity.

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: The routine is not designed for walk around in a restaurant.
  • Timothy asks: What is the difficulty for this trick? I have my first solo show in August and was wondering if I would be able to learn it by then?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: You can certainly learn it by then but you'll want to perform it a few times as there is some audience management. But sleight wise, it's very easy.
  • Constantine asks: For the rising card part can the method or props be named in case one would want to purchase what is required? If it's just IT great, most have some of that laying around. If it's more of a gaff knowing would be helpful before purchase

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: There are no additional gimmicks to purchase for the rising card.
  • John asks: Does this require a lot of card sleights?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: It does not.
  • Justin asks: I can do a fan but not a pressure fan. Does that matter?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: It does not matter as long as it is a fan.
  • Michael asks: Does this include a video explanation?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Hey, this doesn’t include a video explanation however you do receive 2 videos with this purchase, a full performance and a bonus video with some tips on
  • David asks: Is the bonus video with additional comments/tips available for purchasers of the book outside VI?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Please email wizards@vanishingincmagic.com
  • jon asks: Just confirming. Does the book come with video instructions or is it Video or book purchase

    • 1. David answers: Ben has recorded a video with additional comments and handling tips. It is not an explanation video, just a bonus.
Post an answer to this question
  • 호영 asks: Are the two bonus videos only available through Vanishing Inc?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: That is correct!
  • Elliott asks: Does this trick require the purchase of ANYTHING besides this book and a normal deck of cards?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Yes. And no. Assuming you've watched the full performance, if you want to do the Rising Card section, you will need the things for that (thread, glass, bag for the switch etc). If you want to leave that out, you will just need a regular deck, (and a dupe).
