Boris Wild cares deeply about making the maximum magical impact on his audiences. And, with "Variations", he'll show you how he's used this mindset to create variations on some of magic's most beloved effects.

Seven amazing routines are featured in this book, covering nearly all of the most popular themes in card magic. This includes revelations, predictions, color changes, and, of course, Boris' take on the Any Card at Any Number plot. Each detailed explanation is accompanied by a variety of extra ideas, techniques and presentations that will help you personalize each routine further to fit your own unique style.

Contents

Zoom 9
Using a borrowed deck , the magician manages to find a selected playing card without ever touching the deck of cards and while keeping their back turned until the final revelation. Can be performed in-person or during your virtual magic shows on Zoom.

ARCAAN
An original Any Card At Any Number routine where the magician shows several unsuccessful methods of finding a freely named card before finally, during one last attempt, they manage to invisibly turn over a chosen card at a position in the deck that is also freely chosen.

Any Ambitious Card At Any Number
Instead of making the selected playing card jump to the top of the deck like a regular ambitious card routine, the magician makes the spectator's card rise to a chosen number. The spectator counts to their own card.

Predicolor
The magician introduces an envelope and a red deck of playing cards. A spectator than names a number. Without any fishy moves, the magician then deals the cards face-up to that number and removes the prediction card from the envelope. Impossibly, it's a red-backed card, which matches the back of the card they counted to! This gag will probably get a few groans. But they'll quickly turn to gasps when you show that the backs of the other 51 playing cards they could have dealt to all have different designs and colors.

InvisiQuiz
A freely chosen playing card from a borrowed deck is unquestionably lost. The magician asks the spectator several questions, some serious and others more unusual or goofy. Each answer is spelled out, with the last card dealt being isolated. Without ever knowing what card was selected, the magician is convinced that one of these cards must be the spectator's chosen card. The selected card is "invisibly removed" from this small packet and handed to the spectator, who then "throws" it back into the deck of cards. The cards are spread to show the selected card is reversed among the others.

Impossible Double Divination
Two spectators each freely look at one card in the deck while the magician has their back turned. The cards are then shuffled several times. Despite these very fair conditions, the magician still manages to impossibly guess both selected cards.

Color Changing Chicago
A spectator is invited to name a random playing card in a red deck of cards that has been spread face up. With no suspicious moves, the magician then turns the deck over to show there is only one blue-backed card in the entire spread. In a very clean and fair way, this card is turned over to show it's the named card. An indifferent card then changes places with the spectator's card, becoming a blue-backed card while the spectator's card becomes red again. Finally, the indifferent card becomes red again too and then the whole deck momentarily turns blue before getting back to red again like it was at the beginning. This one is wildly visual and fun.
