This is "original" masterclass so it's longer, and more chaotic, than the more current classes. That's a good thing, for what you give up in production values you gain in a more relaxed and quirky experience. (It's fun to watch Regal come to grips with not having a responsive audience present.) In terms of content, he's generous with his discussions but much of the material is already covered in his various books. But watch it anyway, as there are a few exclusive exceptions and you get to hear and see things that the books don't convey.

Very enjoyable man. David breathes for magic. I won't do any of his tricks, or maybe one, but the in-depth analysis of building a trick, pacing it, judging it, improving it, is worth this entire Masterclass.

Top lecture, specially for all the "in between the lines" in depth knowledge in magic. D:R: is a real Lover of magic. In that love he finds all the creativity to continually find new concepts and fine tricks which he gives back to the community: kudos!! Many thanks D.R. for these fruitful hours!!

Wondering how to make your tricks memorable? David Regal tells you how to theme your tricks so you can stand out from everyone else! And, oh yeah, he teaches some amazing tricks too.

This was an excellent Masterclass. David Regal presented a lecture about magic theory camouflaged behind tricks, self-deprecating humor, and interesting stories.
Although Mr. Regal's tricks and demonstration of those tricks were very good, the most interesting parts of his presentation were his discussion of magic theory/philosophy. His introduction of the idea of having a premise for a trick in order to give context and "guide rails" for a viewer were very insightful.
Overall, a very enjoyable lecture.

I was late to the game on this Masterclass...and WOWZA, baby. This is pure gold. David Regal is filled with childlike wonder playing in his own magical playground and letting us in on some of his secrets.

Is this what Diet Mountain Dew does to a mere mortal?

Great masterclass. David amazes me with his creative, simple, out of the box thinking. His premises are engaging. His methods are not hard to do, but effective. His handling is great. His routines are entertaining as well as baffling. Highly recommended.`

I am not a big fan of lectures generally, but this was out of the world.

David Regal's way of talking explaining and making you understand things is very interesting, in a way that you will get a feel that the session is personalised for you. He will address all the questions as if you have asked him for an explanation of it.

An amazing and insightful session.

As usual, another fantastic interactive experience where I walked away feeling better and more knowledgeable.

It's hard to figure out who my favorite is throughout this series so far because everyone is so charming with their own incredible perspectives.

This Masterclass really has a perfect and well thought through balance between tricks and theory. If only my classes back at school had been thought through like this.

Everything is connected and flows perfectly into each other. You can see David really planned out the whole Masterclass in detail.

He teaches something for everyone, from beginner to professional, for in real life performances and the zoom type shows. From small methods to big thinking. For close up to parlour and some methods/ tricks, but definitely the theory, shouldn't be overlooked for stage shows too.

Mister Regal has a lot to show and tell, so he overruns sometimes, which no one will find a problem. He doesn't rush through things or skip things to keep it in time.

David starts every Masterclass with a nice little trick and from there on dives deeper into tricks, method and the connection to theory. At least 7 tricks every Masterclass, giving you at least 21 tricks + theory + the recorded zoom meeting.

I can't see any magician being disappointed with this Masterclass.

This was my first full masterclass with Vanishing Inc. I am completely blown away by the amount of information that I was able to get in 4 weeks. David Regal has got me in a whole new level of thinking. I feel full of inspiration (which is what we all need right now in this incredibly weird year). I wish I had known about him and his plethora of ideas and material sooner. These lectures alone have made him one of my new favorites to watch perform and to listen to on how to get better. These Masterclasses give you an opportunity to get some true close up time with the greats of modern magic. Even if you don't recognize the name or the face of whose next up, I feel like Andi and Josh have a great judgment on who to put up in front of the camera. I'm incredibly happy with the investment I've made and I cannot wait until next month!

I've seen David Regal lecture before, but this Masterclass is very different than those lectures. I especially enjoyed the 3rd lecture where David addresses the "frivolity" of magic. His passion and thoughts about magic really come through, and were greatly appreciated by this viewer. Thank you David, and thank you Vanishing Inc.

This is without a doubt one of the greatest Masterclass so far, David gives a lot of concepts that will help you be a better performer. This Masterclass is packed with tricks (not only cards) so you will for sure find something that will make this worth the entire price.

David is the rare gem in the magic world of performer (actor/comedian/improv), writer, & creator. The things he offers are real-world, usable tricks and advice - pipedreams and piffle. The three installments of this MasterClass was a perfect mix of his philosophy and theories about magic and performing, and great tricks that work in many different venues. I loved it!

Well thought out with a variety of trick types and presentations. David’s opinions of premises, plots, and methods v. effects are insightful and valuable for how we should all approach our own magic.

So many gems it's like I hit the motherlode—and I mean actual complete tricks and routines as well as utility moves and gimmicks, AND those little flashes of genius perhaps even unknowingly bestowed on an off beat or throwaway comment that comes from the benefit of decades of experience and will suddenly make you rethink that latest thing you're working on, or even the go-to routine that's been in your repertoire for years. Seriously, the genius is contagious, and conferred with wit, charm, humility, and the ease of expression that will make you think of that favorite teacher who changed your life. If you're hesitating, you shouldn't be; this is gold, pure and simple.

In this series, David Regal won't just teach you magic. He'll open up your mind about magic, inspiring change through uncovering some amazing realisations from his experience over the years. As well as coming up with great original material - you'll learn plenty of magic for sure, but it goes beyond that, David gets you asking the questions around why you do magic, what journey do you want to take your audience on, why and even covering some of the how through his analogies from the world of music. There were definitely a number of "wow" moments through this series. Absolutely loved it!

I really liked that David Regal gave a range of sleights and gimmicks and showed how both are useful. His use of items that beyond cards and coins gave me ideas that are useful for real world performances. David's conclusion on how magic can have an important effect on the spectators was inspiring!

This is gold! There is more here than you would pick up in a week of lectures. "Masterclass" is truly the right moniker for this three lecture series by David Regal. It's not a lecture to learn a few moves but how to really think about what makes magic magical! Feel like I could watch this on repeat for the rest of the year and still be learning.

I've always enjoyed David Regal's style, material and teaching. This Masterclass series is excellent. Some new material, some old, mostly stuff that hasn't been seen on video before. But the real magic of this series is David's philosophy of magic and his discussions of theory, the why rather than the how. Well worth the investment.

I rarely review magic publicly, and this is my first review on Vanishing Inc.
This masterclass series is seriously good, and you will not be disappointed if you purchase it.
What will you learn from David Regal's masterclass?
• Lots and lots of different effects using, coins, cups, napkins, cards, wine bottles, even gummi bears.
• Various sleights and controls
• Thoughts on premise, plot, motivation, talking, gimmicks vs sleights and finding elegant solutions
• David Regal loves diet Mountain Dew and is mildly crazy

David teaching method has the ability to really sparkle ideas in your mind, more than just giving you effects, gimmicks and sleight of hands (and you get a lot of that too). Listening to him talking about his approach to magic was really inspiring and that alone worth the price of the subscription.

Amazing. The tricks were great. Sure, they are in his books or can be bought in other ways. But this is so much better. Feels casual, live demos of the tricks - not some potentially staged ads of it. Authentic, fun, - time goes by too fast when you are watching this. The material keeps you busy for a while. Obviously not everything is "my cup of tea", but inspiring in any case. Interesting to hear Davids thoughts on these things, designing magic...

David Regal is my favorite lecture so far! He is fun and funny and really knows the art! I have learned so much! The first lecture was worth the price alone! So much great content and it did not stop! I looked forward to every Sunday with David Regal! My magic and how I want people to feel about experiencing my magic has greatly improved through this lecture. Keep the excellent lectures coming Josh and Andi, and we will all be better magicians because of this!

It's David Regal, so it's top notch! His discussion on Premise is worth the price by itself. Add to that more discussions on theory and presentation and you have a very important series. The effects are fun to see especially the thinking behind them. As is typical there are a lot of items that require arts and crafts. I wish there was more time given on the actual construction or maybe an additional download on some of the more complex ones (like the bottle). Excellent mix of discussion, slight of hand, semi-auto-matic and prop magic.

Excellent! Creative magic, good instruction, variety of magic categories shared, founded in important principles, good anecdotes that emphasize becoming a better magician, less focus on "tricks" and more on "audience connection," well referenced, upbeat and energetic, and at times funny! I'm really enjoying this.

David Regal is one of my favorite thinkers and creators of all time. This class today was in someways a live version of his books, Approaching Magic and Interpreting Magic. I love his thoughts which are as important as any of the tricks he teaches. Who are you? What are you and what is the premise or plot? F-A-N-D-A-M-N-T-A-S-T-I-C!!!

Let me first tell you that I should have probably given this five stars, and I would have if I didn't own Mr. Regal's books. It's a really amazing lecture. I love the theory, the tricks, and mostly David Regal!! But because of materials that overlapped, I wish there were more new materials. But one of the best lectures for sure. David Regal is a fantastic teacher. The materials are pretty we distributed. Some gimmicks, some sleight of hand, some parlor, some close-up, a little mentalism, obviously those materials are top-notch. My favorite effect is Hamman's child. It is a sort of signed card to impossible location(at least that's what the audience will remember it as). It teaches you a really really beautiful sleight, which looks just so clean. Another great trick is called Change for a five. Sadly, I knew this because it was published in Approaching Magic, but it was really beautiful to see how Mr. Regal does it.

I loved David's creativity and his genuine excitement. But, with him talking fast and non-stop, I was sometimes having difficulty understanding what topic he was alluding to. For instance, in the lecture index, five topics followed immediately one after the the other , to-wit:"Introduction/The Asset We Ignore"...followed by "Interpreting Magic"...followed by "How to Fail a Test that Has No Wrong Answer"...followed by "Interpreting Magic"...followed by "What's Happening"...etc.With David talking so excitedly and non-stop, I was getting confused as to whether or not a sentence or phrase was making the current point...or was the start of the next point. It was like writing sentences with no space in between the words. And so, as I tried to figure out whether or not where a particular point should be referencing, I was frequently losing important points David was making because I was distracted away from that point by my conscious thinking about where the previous statement was supposed to be referencing. In essence, there was no time to have a momentary break between topic because David was excitedly imparting words of wisdom with such speed that my "reflecting" mind could not keep up.My bad, I'm sure. And, fortunately, with the download, with repeat (repeated?) playing, all will become clear. That said, I love the creativity and the concept of a single word changing the focus of an ordinary oft-repeated trick and trick premise into a disguised "new" effect. The "puppy" trick and the "All's Fair" are just two great examples of that concept...and has me really thinking about this application in my existing magic. Way to go, David!

I don't really know what to think of this Masterclass. I have hesitated until now about how to value it. David Regal is undoubtedly a great magician but perhaps not the best teacher. He talks super fast, sometimes in a confusing way, too much rambling, with perhaps too many ideas in mind. In the end it turns out to be a somewhat chaotic class, with elements that fall off the table, tricks that fail... It's fun to be able to attend a Masterclass like this even if it's not going to be very useful, you're certainly going to have a good time.

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Yes, it is a previously published Masterclass we're offering at a discount.
  • David asks: Is the 35% discount subtracted during check-out? A price of £59.94 isn't a 35% discount of £60, it's a 0.1% discount.
