Magic download (video) by Jason Suran (12.95)

A sensational routine that will go right into your professional repertoire. This is a true worker offered at an unbeatable price!

Jason Suran is one of NYC's hardest working mentalists and is regularly hired by celebrities, dignitaries, and the biggest companies in the world. "ESPidus Novus" is one of his signature routines that he performs at nearly all these events. It combines three classic feats of mentalism into a routine that packs a ton of impact into a short amount of time.

With your back turned, you ask someone to circle a symbol written on your business card, and then write down a city they'd like to travel to (or any other unique piece of information). Finally, your volunteer folds and hides the business card in any hand. When you turn around, you immediately nail the hand the card is hidden in, the symbol, and then the city.

  • Easy to do
  • Hard-hitting
  • Perform it anywhere from formal shows to street magic
  • Can even be done surrounded

Download "ESPidus Novus" today and jump right into your new favorite routine. Jason teaches all of the basics, as well as important subtleties and variations (including a routine that can be done for more than one person at a time). You'll even get to see the routine in action during multiple live in-studio performances to ensure you walk away confident in your ability to perform this professional routine.

NOTES: Upon publishing this download, it came to our attention that Jerome Finley also combines the "Acidus Novus" peek with a "Which Hand" premise and we would like to ensure he receives proper crediting. The name "Jason Sobel" was also a pseudonym that Jason Suran no longer uses.

I had never heard of the Acidus Novus p*** until this. This was clever and it is such a good tool to use. I like the routine and the ESP part was definitely an extra "hit" that I never considered - perhaps my favourite takeaway. I have my own ideas for how I would use aspects of this, so I wouldn't use the whole routine as is, but break it up and mix-and-match.

Practical, can be done in both formal or casual situations, impromptu. Just needs a marker pen & business cards.
Recommended, especially if you have not come across the original Acidus Novus or Acidus Plus. Even if you have, I believe you will learn something from this.

The entire video is well-taught, the method is straightforward, good tips. He includes some pointers about cold readings. The performances are well-done, and, essentially walk you through just what you need to perform the routines, Credit is given to the creator of Acidus.

ESPidus Novus is an excellent routine from start to finish, providing up to 15 minutes of entertaining and high quality mentalism material that is able to be performed shortly after watching. The video is very well-produced and includes several performances followed by a detailed and thorough explanation of the method. I only have two words of caution: 1) If you are making drawing the ESP symbols by hand and do not already have them on your business card, you need to make sure to draw them in such a way that the peek will be able to effectively reveal which was selected. If they are drawn too small or not spread out enough, then even performing the peek perfectly will not necessarily reveal which it is. 2) The opening "Which Hand" method may be seen as underwhelming or disappointing by those who want a truly sure-fire trick. Suran's method is practical, impromptu, and likely to work more often than not with the right delivery but it is not an automatic winner by any stretch of the imagination. This will especially be the case if you are newer to mentalism and not yet fully settled into your persona.

With those two caveats in mind, this is overall an excellent routine and video. It is easily worth the asking price and will no-doubt be welcome in the repertoire of many a mentalist.

Jason has some nice moves and ideas for the choices he offers and, with the help of Joshua, the instructions are very clear and detailed. I would say to also take a look at Acidus Plus as performed by Richard Osterlind to give ideas on the writing you put on your business card for this effect.

Hi . I have learned the acidus novus in the past ( and other "billet work" with Julien Losa videos ) but here what I really like is the way he do the acidus move , it is really great . And also the possibility to do it with 2 billets together, it is very well thought . A good construction of the routine , a real worker . Thank you to share it with us .

Very elegantly thought out. Can't really RATE it, though, until I've played with it in "real life"

I perform many different effects using different peeks. This is exceptional and I will now just use this for all the effects that require peeks. The routines show are just great especially using two spectators. You can't go wrong with this. Download it now.

It as a quick learn after watching the video, so well done! It was simple enough to understand the idea and the execution. Overall, if you don't know acidus novus, this is a very good pick up !

Instructions were very clear and well thought out! 10/10 would recommend.

Great, clever routine with some nice changes on Acidus Novus. Quite a simple concept to learn and you can start straight away with just a pen and some business cards. It is a very deceptive move and always surprises audience as to how you did it. It is a peek that you could also modify to use for other effects.

Reviewer

Kris

This is essentially a little routine built around "Acidus Novus" allowing you to reveal two pieces of information from one spectator or, using two spectators you can reveal a piece of information about them. Even though I know the peek and have used it, I learned something really valuable.
He teaches a couple folds using two business cards and you can, as I mentioned earlier, reveal the information for two spectators. It's very clever. Special guest appearance by the venerable Joshua Jay!

I used this routine frequently until I learned more insidious methods. If you are new to this, just buy it, use it, and get comfortable with cheeky billet peaks.

ESPidous Novus is a great intro for billet work using Millard's Acidus Novus technique. You will get three good pieces of magic with this. While there are more in depth explanations for Acidus, as well as other billet peaks, this is well worth the price for the intro and routines.

While this download is good and worth the price, what I gained from this download was something subtle and nuanced. I discovered what my character should be for Mentalism and what props to use. These things are not the highlight of the video, but hopefully this illustrates that there is a myriad of things to be learned.

Great Mentalism routine, even if your just starting out in Magic, this is worth getting.
I would say this is on the same par as Richard Osterlin.

Reviewer

This is a fantastic routine. The performance with the two spectators and the method used in that instance is gold. Jason has taken the Acidus Novus principle and woven some other clever principals in with it to create a really strong experience of mind reading for the spectators. Best of all it uses just one or two business cards and a sharpie. I’ll definitely be adding this to my professional repertoire.

Fantastic. I love the fact that you are getting 3 different bits of information out of just one peak. I will be using this in my strolling magic.

Reviewer

Its a pretty good routine that uses a somewhat hackneyed, but great peek routine. I doubt I would use this myself, not because its not a great routine, but because my eyesight is not sharp enough to be able to use this peek quickly enough to make it look like magic. Although most people would be fooled by this presentation, I feel that in a typical audience there would be at least one or two people who would know a peek had taken place, it is true that because more than one "secret" of the spectator is being "discovered", it would throw them of how the full revelation is arrived at, but I think my typical audience would be likely to write too small , or in the wrong place for me to be able to read it. Maybe a person with 20/20 vision could make good use of the ideas contained in the video though, so I would say very good, but not for me.

good camera work with clear and logical presentation and explanation of this routine - 5 stars

Jason's performance and teaching of this effect is efficient and effective. This piece is powerful, practical and deceptive. The Which Hand part will take work but when done well will be a stunner. The touches on the overall effect are brilliant. This multiphase routine is well constructed. With rehearsal and repetition of the p**k, this will be a potent tool in your arsenal

Killer effect taught in a practical and approachable way.

Reviewer

The other reviews have endorsed ESPidus Novus quite well. I want to touch on the teaching... It was not a rush job of explanation, though the which hand aspect, I would have liked a little more time with, but that’s just me. In the long run, Jason Sobel is a good teacher and you will not be disappointed with EsPidous Novus

This is an amazingly devious routine and an instant inclusion to my set list. I’ve had every scope and range of reactions, from speechless awe, hysterical laughter in disbelief to tears. I can not recommend this routine enough.

I have to say I am blown away by this routine. Anytime classic plots are reworked I’m intrigued. Mr. Sobel has crafted a well thought out and logical update to all three phases. I can work this into any setting and it will make an impact.

Great routine to perform everywhere!

Reviewer

This is a serious, well-thought out, very methodical mentalism routine that can applied or customized to suit an original routine of your own. Very well shot and explained from every angle. Joshua Jay even shows up and clarifies some of the fine points and minor details to make everything crystal clear. Well worth it.

Reviewer

Thomas

I would recommend this product. All too often something is promoted as being more than it is. What you see in the trailer is exactly what you get.
The only issues I would say are that it says you can be surrounded. I would argue that you risk exposing what you're doing if people are stood all around you. That said it would still work for walk around.

Reviewer

Scott

This is an excellent utility move taught effectively, as well as a bonus wrinkle to double the leverage of the basic move. Pleased to see the credit to the original innovator within the video, as well as a number of excellent additions and a really smooth handling of the move. In addition to the core move, several variations of a full routine are included, with multiple performances to give a clear sense of the structure and timing. The presentation is good, but not so tethered to an individual performance style that it will be difficult to adapt to suit your own character. The instruction overall is clear, although Josh prompts emphasis on some key details that help to breakdown the move into smaller components, as Jason is so comfortable with the move itself that separating it into distinct actions and elements seemed like a challenge. Overall, a few ready to go routines as well as clear coverage of a utility move that opens up a tremendous number of possibilities.

I’m very impressed with this routine. I’m not a mentalist, but I include the Center Tear as a regular part of my strolling repertoire. This struck me as similar, in terms of props and method, but with a nice 3-phase structure. I particularly like the “which hand” method, which was new for me. Teaching is clear, enough. I notice the glimpse takes a split second longer than with CT, but I don’t expect it to be a problem. I’m not a fan of the abstract symbols, so I bought a set of children’s stamps in the stationary store. Lots to choose from-sports themes, animals, cars, etc. Am very much looking forward to making this a regular feature during strolling, and couldn’t be happier with the price!

Very well-structured routine! Although it's not a 100% sure-fire routine, I think I'll include it in my show. Recommended!

Reviewer

Francis

Have not had a chance to use it yet, but it seems relatively easy to perform. I plan to use use a somewhat different routine, but the basics are great and am confident that it will add to my performances.

Reviewer

Andrew

This is a good one. You basically get two tools for the price of one, and each is well taught and demonstrated. I really like the routine that’s included, but I’m also abuzz with all the different uses these techniques could have. Highly recommended.

I'm such a sucker for effects like this. What especially appealed to me about this one is its multi-phase revelation. I was able to perform it after a couple of days practice, and my wife - the toughest critic out there - was totally bamboozled. You'll need to "practice smart" to get the p**k convincing, but it flew right past the other folks I showed it to. VERY highly recommended, and a real bargain.

Reviewer

Darrel

Awesome mentalist trick. I’m not thrilled with the “which hand” part, but the ESP symbols and the naming part are terrific. Can easily be learned in 30 minutes of practice and it’s already been a show stopper for me! Well worth the download price! Get this trick!

Reviewer

David

The routine is extremely well constructed and provides a lot of impact for very little effort. There are multiple touches taught that come from hundreds of real world performances (like how to peek information when the light is poor). Highly recommended!

Reviewer

Lon

I am not prone to write many reviews, yet I do strongly rely on other people’s reviews...my bad. I was however very motivated to post here how excited I am about learning this. This is an amazing, three-phase routine that is so well thought out, and so wonderfully taught! Truly a steal at twice the asking price. Bravo, Jason, and thank you VanishingInc!

Works every time. The peek is very easy and deceptive.

Reviewer

Excellent! It's a well structured, multi-layered effect that is very, very powerful. I've seen Jason kill with this routine.

Cool!!! LOVE THIS!

Reviewer

Nathan

I usually am never compelled to write reviews for products I purchase. But this is an exception.

There are so many versions of the which hand effect. I even have created a few. But this is a nice little ploy that hits with a lot of impact. After doing a little game of which hand to warm up, you now can reveal on of the ESP signs. Then you can reveal whatever information they are thinking of (City, pin code, name, etc.).

I'm not new to the art of mentalism. I actually recognized the methods. But I'm still so impressed by the little subtleties that make this a great piece for walk around and as an organic piece of mentalism. I'm excited what else Jason is going to publish.

Just bought this and watched it. I've always wanted to learn a good peek routine and now I have!! I thought it would be hard but it's not bad at all. Not heard of Jason before. Will Vanishing Inc have more of his downloads?

Reviewer

Chris

The peek seems a bit obvious to me, but Osterlind has some work on this which really helps conceal the peek with a more deceptive way of handling and getting the peek. Otherwise the structure is quite good and a multi-phase presentation or the double peek, seem hard hitting.

Reviewer

Fred

I love this trick, but it's going to take a lot of practice. I'm not very good at acidus novus.

Reviewer

Leo

Excellent and fast peek."Which hand" part somewhat less convincing and sort of hap hazard but can be overcome by right sort of questions and/or adding a kind of detection system (based on magnetism)
to the business cardbased on magnetism.

Reviewer

Nigel

Like most peeks from billets or centre tears you need confidence to do it well but this three phase routine helps cover the moment.

Reviewer

Robert

Has utility and could be taught a little clearer.

Reviewer

Travis

This is very good. Clean, efficient, a worker. The presentation is bare bones and so if you're looking for material for casual or informal situations (or arguably for more emotionally impactful presentations) you might look elsewhere. But for something like a table hopping scenario where you just have to get things done and fast, this is the kind of thing you want.

Reviewer

Larry

This routine gives some good info on getting the access to the slip. It is a well thought out concept on an already proven over the years idea.

Reviewer

Mark

This is a fine addition to a long line of approaches to the Acidus Novus peek. As clever as the approach is to determining which drawing the person chooses, I think the multiple revelation dilutes the drama of direct mind reading reinforced with subtle cold reading. That said, the handling and the peek are disarming and rock solid, which to my mind, is more than enough!

Reviewer

Javier

The routine is very well constructed in 3 incremental faces. As all the dirty work happens at the beginning it leads you to focus on your presentation. It's totally a worker effect!

Reviewer

Charles

To me it was just another acidus Novis. The sloppy tear and the peek is too obvious. Spectators do notice things like that. Where was the secret for determining which hand? That part was virtually skipped. (Cold Reading?)

Reviewer

Roy

Although the ESP addition to the peek is very good and I added it to my repertoire, the video is pretty short and not detailed enough. The which hand part does NOT work 100% of the times.

Reviewer

Ron

If you don't already know and perform a version of Acidus Plus, this will be a good introduction to the effect. Well explained, with some nice subtleties. I bought the download, however, because I liked adding the "Which hand" bit to Acidus Plus. The explanation for that, unfortunately, was sorely lacking.

Reviewer

Grant

Very poor presentation and stage presence. (Who lays their head down on a table to show they are not looking at the spectator? A five year old?) When he finally got to showing the technique after a very long wait then it an awesome going forward from there.
