A pocket-sized diary effect for working magicians and mentalist.

You show your audience a special calendar where each date is associated with a playing card. Your volunteer thinks of a date that is special to them, and then checks what card corresponds with it. You then reveal that this card is the only card in the pack with a different color back and also has the words "special day" written on it.

I've been looking for a replacement for Paul Green's Fortune Teller's Book and this is it.

I LOVE how simple, direct, and easy this effect is yet how impactful it can be with the right storytelling.

It's basically self-working, which means that you can put all your energy and attention in the story part of the effect and create a really powerful magical moment!

NOTE: I got the red-deck. I'd recommend getting the blue one as the selected card will provide a better contrast!

  • Rick asks: Two questions: 1) Do all the necessary cards already have 'Special Day' written on them? 2) Can the deck be used for regular card routines, before and/or after?

    • 1. Diego answers: Yes, they can with very little work and one simple art supply that most magicians most likely already have

  • Roberto asks: I almost always use red bikes when performing so, I'm assuming that purchasing this in the red deck, the spectator's selection will have a blue back, yes?

  • Nigel asks: Does the diary come pre-printed, or do you have to write the names of the cards on each day?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: It comes pre-printed

  • David asks: I like how this looks, but can you tell me how the $70 price tag is justified for a modified deck of cards and a small book?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: We do not set the prices for magic that we do not produce ourselves. But, "modified" decks are not cheap to make, nor are getting small runs of specially printed diaries. Everything has been going up in price of late, from paper costs for producing books, to custom decks. Ultimately though, the price of third party products is something we are unable to control.

  • David asks: Hello, I see that using two specs is ideal, but can this done with just one spec?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Yes it can be done with one spectator

  • Sidney asks: Is there much difference between the Paul Gordon version and this one? Would you say this one is better than his?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: It hard to say which effect is better as they both use different methods, it comes down to preference
