Building on the rich legacy of the Cups and Balls, Bluether Magic has joined forces with Raphael Gaffs to introduce "The Raphael Cups and Balls Set". These premiums cups and balls are available in a variety of versions and sizes.

Expertly-crafted "Raphael Cups and Balls Sets" are available in either 304 stainless steel or yellow brass. Each cup is made using a CNC lathe and is hand-polished to attain a mirror shine. You can also get a special "Stealth Cup" version featuring a black-coated interiors that prevent reflections of the objects hidden inside the cups.

With all versions, extra attention was given to amplifying the user experience for magicians. The top curvature of the cups has been extensively fine-tuned to ensure it's steep enough to not only nest up to three balls but also hold them in place during moves that involve a lot of shaking/movement.

The inner diameter of each cup is equal to its height, allowing them to contain larger final loads such as full-size tennis ball or various fruits. Offering a perfectly-balanced weight, these cups also have unparalleled stability when concealing the final load. They'll remain stationary, even with larger objects under them.

The size and weight of the hand-stitched crochet balls also makes it easier to perform all your favorite moves. Each one has a special core that differs from other crochet balls. Even when dropped from waist height, they won't bounce out of control. They're also built to last a lifetime.

I ordered the standard brass set. The production quality of these cups are exquisite. I'd swear these cups were created by pouring molten brass into a mold because they have a melodic tone of a handcrafted bell.

I can tell that each cup was meticulously designed and produced. The brass surface is polished to a shiny luster. The symmetry is such that when the cups nested upon the other, you can't tell when one cup ends and the other begins. Each cup has a nice weight to it without being too heavy.

The balls from other Cups and Balls sets I have, the balls are all alike and lightweight. The crochet balls in this set are nice and have a sleight weight to them which makes them easier to handle.

I have a set of Porper Cups and a set of Sherwood Cups. If you're a collector of Cups and Balls sets this set will be a worthy addition to your collection. If you're a performer of this classic piece of magic, this set will add a touch of elegance to your presentation.

These cups are VERY nice. They feel so solid and ring nicely when struck. I purchased the stealth version, and the finish is superb. I do wonder how long the stealth finish will hold up over the years, but only time will tell. The cups nest nicely, and their weight really adds to the ease of executing certain sleights, such as having a cup fall through a cup.

I was pleasantly surprised that the accompanying balls seem to have a rubber core, something I’ve only seen in more expensive sets of balls from Sherwood Magic or Michael Kaminskas. Sets from these makers cost $45 and up for the balls alone. The ad copy says it’s a “special” core, and whether it’s rubber or something else, it is definitively NOT the cork or hardwood seen in many other sets. The balls handle very well and fit nicely within the cups when stacked. These balls are a tad smaller compared to the other rubber core balls in the market. This isn’t a pro or a con, as this kind of thing is a personal preference, and thus worth noting.

I bought these cups to see if they had that certain something that was missing from my current go to set the “Bells of St. Mary’s” set from Rings and Things Magic. The Bells are a great set, but smaller, lighter weight, and more expensive than the Raphael Set. I bought the Bells because they were advertised to have a nice ring when struck, and they do, but they do not ring as loud or pure as the Raphael Set, likely due to being spun vs machined like the Raphael Set.
While these are pricey, the quality, fit, and finish of this set is equal to, if not better than, more expensive cups from custom makers. If you have this kind of money to spend on cups, you can’t go wrong with the Raphael Cups!
