The Session 2022 Guest of Honor Spotlight | Mike Caveney
By Vanishing Inc. - Saturday, May 22, 2021
Mike Caveney is a magic tour de force. He is one of finest parlor performers in the world and a renowned expert in the history of magic. Add in the fact that he’s also a profound magic collector and author, and you’ll see that he’s amassed an incredible career rivaled only by his extremely-talented wife—the incomparable Tina Lennert. This magic power couple will be our joint Guests of Honor at The Session and we are so thrilled that you have the opportunity to experience them live.
While they’re both extremely busy putting together an amazing performance for you, Mike was able to take a few minutes to answer some questions ahead of The Session. With that, we pass it over to Mike…
What Is your favorite convention memory?
Performing at Abbott’s Get-Together with all of my magic heros in the audience.
What legacy do you hope to leave on the magic world?
I’m hoping that my legacy will be in the form of the printed word. Live performances will eventually be forgotten but books last for a very long time.
What excites you most about the future of magic?
Despite the endless indignities that the art of magic is subjected to, it seems to not only survive, but flourish. I am excited to see how the next generation of creators and personalities carry the art into the future.
What’s one mistake in your career you encourage others not to repeat?
It takes a long time to discover that a routine is never finished. Never stop thinking about it.
What do you consider to be “real magic”?
A perfect confluence of mystery and entertainment.
Years ago in Vienna, Austria I worked for a formal audience, men in tails and women in ball gowns, and all of them were seated on the floor. It was like performing at a birthday party for royalty.
What’s your favorite fun fact?
I’ve always loved running. I have a theory that running is directly related to creativity.
If you had Josh and Andi over for dinner, what would you cook?
Andi.
