Who are you and what do you do at Vanishing Inc. Magic?
I'm Andi Gladwin. I'm the cofounder of Vanishing Inc.
What got you into magic?
I was a child who loved magic and spent far too much time doing it! I worked in IT for seven or eight years before becoming a professional close-up magician and launching Vanishing Inc.
What sort of magic do you do now?
I love all types of magic. I mainly perform close-up magic but also have a number of stage routines, including one where I perform a magic trick from inside a giant balloon.
Who are you magical heroes?
I have so many heroes that it would be impossible to list them all. I study a lot of Juan Tamariz's magic and theories, but also learn a lot from my friends including Joshua Jay, Benjamin Earl, Luke Jermay, and many more.
What’s your favourite magic book?
It's normally the one I'm reading at any present time. But the books that I return to most often are Card College, the Marlo Magazines, and books written by Karl Fulves — I am a collector of his works and have read hundreds of books written by him.
What’s your favourite magic trick?
The one I enjoy the most is the trick I call "Chip Robinson," where I perform an impossible card revelation sequence completely blindfolded. I get excited when I perform this trick because I know what is about to happen at the end ... and I know the audience isn't expecting it!
What’s one bit of advice you can share you’ve learned over the years?
Ultimately, the better magician you become, the better the opportunities you'll have. I see too many magicians try to find shortcuts to success, and I believe that the only true way to do it is to be so passionate about your magic that you can't help but become great at it. That's why I spend all my time doing magic — because I love it, and I know that dedicating your entire life to something is the only way to become great at it.
What Vanishing Inc. tricks do you perform most regularly?
I perform a lot of effects from our books. The marketed trick that I use most often is Glance, but I also regularly use Phantom Deck, Inferno, a trick from Decoded and many more!
